The Meaning of Fiduciary Duty - "Old-Fashioned Lawyering"
I have practiced law for more than 30 years, and have protected the rights of individuals and businesses throughout North Texas
for more than 20 years. I became a lawyer because I wanted to help businesses and individuals through difficult times. I believe strongly in my fiduciary obligations to clients, and will always consider only your interests and not my own. I will always strive to represent you with diligence, experience, and integrity.
I think of this approach to law as "old-fashioned lawyering." While the concept of fiduciary duty has weakened as law practice has become more of a business, I believe that a firm commitment to it is the only way to ensure that clients get the representation they expect and deserve.
I was a partner in the firm of Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer & Feld, LLP, for fifteen years, from 1987 to 2002, before opening the Law Office of Walter S. Cowger in 2002.

Board Certified in Labor and Employment Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization Since 1996
My Practice
I offer comprehensive and experienced representation in matters involving:
- Employment litigation defense: I defend businesses in employment-related disputes, including allegations of discrimination or harassment, breach of contract or wrongful discharge, unemployment claims, FLSA, FLMA, and ERISA actions.
- Business disputes: I represent businesses and business owners who are plaintiffs or defendants in commercial controversies, including breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, deceptive trade practices, business torts, and legal malpractice.
- Employment contract negotiation: I counsel employers and employees at all stages of the negotiation of employment-related agreements, including severance packages.
Named a Texas Super Lawyer by Texas Monthly Magazine Every Year Since 2005
I also conduct internal investigations for companies that face allegations of discrimination or sexual harassment. I can thoroughly review all charges and provide you with a complete analysis of the merits and shortcomings of these claims, so that your regular corporate counsel doesn't risk being disqualified from representing you if a lawsuit is filed.
