I was born in El Dorado, Arkansas, in 1951. My grandfather practiced law there for 50 years, which is why I decided to become a lawyer. I went to college at Yale and law school at the University of Virginia. I practiced with the firm of Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer and Feld, LLP, first in Washington D.C., and then in Dallas. I was a partner in the firm for fifteen years, from 1987 to 2002, when I left it to open my own practice.
At the Law Office of Walter S. Cowger, I bring over 33 years of experience to businesses and business owners throughout North Texas. Board Certified in Labor and Employment Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization since 1996, I handle all types of business litigation, the defense of employment disputes, employment or severance agreement negotiations, and internal investigations for companies facing discrimination or harassment lawsuits.
I am AV®-rated under Martindale-Hubbell's Peer Review Rating System, and have been named a Texas Super Lawyer by Texas Monthly magazine every year since 2005.
