Employment Contract Negotiation

At the Law Office of Walter S. Cowger, I offer extensive experience in contract negotiation to employees throughout Texas. As an attorney, I am always mindful of my fiduciary duty to clients, always serving your needs and interests. Board Certified in Labor and Employment Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, I am also AV®-rated under Martindale-Hubbell's Peer Review Rating System. I have also been named a "Texas Super Lawyer" by Texas Monthly magazine every year since 2005.

Executive Employment and Severance Agreements

I have negotiated many employment agreements and severance agreements for executives, up to and including C-level executives. I know what provisions are customarily included in such agreements, and what the executive should ask for. In the severance context, I can help you to maximize the benefits you receive from the former employer without "burning any bridges."

Physician Employment Agreements

I have represented both new and experienced physicians in negotiation employment agreements with practice groups. As with executives, I know what the physician should ask for in areas such as scheduling, insurance, indemnifications, noncompetes, and termination provisions.

My Employment Contract Negotiation Practice

I protect the interests of employees throughout the employment contract negotiation process. I will prepare and review all proposed agreements to make certain they address your concerns and protect your rights, and will represent you in any meetings or conversations regarding the terms of your agreement, including direct communications with the other party or its counsel.

I also work with employees in negotiating the terms of severance packages, whether those terms are to be included in the original employment contract, or negotiated upon termination of employment. Because of my experience, I can quickly help you determine whether the other side's demands are fair and reasonable, and work with you to bring about a solution that helps you accomplish your goals.

If you are an employee involved in the negotiation of an employment or severance agreement, it is particularly important that you retain an attorney to review the terms of the proposed contract. Such agreements are drafted by and for the benefit of the company; you need an experienced lawyer who understands your rights, and who will carefully review the agreement and negotiate changes that protect your interests.
