Dallas Whistleblower Protection Lawyer

If your employer has violated the law or is planning to do so, you may want to report that either internally or to an appropriate outside authority, but fear that you may be retaliated against, including possibly losing your job. There are laws to protect you, but you should have an experienced lawyer to safeguard your rights.

Protecting Employees Against Workplace Retaliation

I focus my representation in whistleblower protection claims on the needs of employees. I will work with you at any stage of a controversy, whether you have just become aware of employer misconduct and want guidance as you disclose wrongful acts, or you have reported perceived wrongdoing either internally or externally and fear that you may lose your job or face serious sanctions at work.

I represent individuals who seek protection under either federal or state whistleblower statutes, including:

  • The Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002, which addressed fraud in accounting and corporate governance in the wake of several well-known corporate scandals. Sarbanes-Oxley, also known as SOX, contains anti-retaliation provisions protecting employees who report company conduct that constitutes fraud against shareholders.
  • The Dodd-Frank Act of 2010, which broadens SOX and provides protection to whistleblowers who expose fraud in the financial services industry.
  • Federal "qui tam" laws that provide substantial financial incentives to those who expose fraud against the federal government. The federal False Claims Act, which dates to the Civil War and was amended in 1986, allows whistleblowers to claim a portion of the damages awarded in such cases.
  • State laws that grant various protections to whistleblowers who report illegal activity.

I have been Board Certified in Labor and Employment Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization since 1996. I am also AV-rated by my colleagues in the legal profession under Martindale-Hubbell's Peer Review Rating System*. I have been named a "Texas Super Lawyer" by Texas Monthly magazine every year since 2005.
